Tasnim news agency, affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, reported that a Qatari political delegation traveled to Iran on Friday, July 19, for consultations with Islamic Republic officials. Tasnim wrote: "Given Abbas Araghchi's presence in Mashhad, it appears the Qatari delegation, at the level of one of the foreign minister's advisors, traveled to Mashhad." The news agency added that "the main purpose of this visit is reportedly an attempt to consolidate Qatar's mediating position following recent events." Previously, Qatar had lodged a protest with the Islamic Republic over recent attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
