These officials noted that talks between Iran and the United States have been constructive but are now at an "either we agree or we don't" stage, emphasizing that Washington simultaneously demands a public and open statement from Tehran to formally announce the cessation of attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz and the reopening of all shipping channels. According to these senior sources, the Iranian side claimed during negotiations that recent attacks on shipping lines resulted from a "malfunctioning component of their system"; however, U.S. officials stressed in a cautionary tone that "the United States possesses the necessary military options to ensure that Iran's nuclear sites remain inaccessible."
