About one-third of Iran’s population will be elderly within the next three decades The head of the Scientific Association of Gerontology said: About 12 percent of Iran’s population is currently over the age of 60, and this trend has placed Iran among the countries with the fastest aging rates in the world. By 2050, the population aged 60 and older in Iran is expected to reach about 31 percent, or nearly 29 million people. At present, the number of trained geriatric medicine specialists in Iran is very limited, and based on past experience, only about twenty-three specialists in this field have been trained.
