Al Arabiya reported on Saturday, July 20, citing its sources, that the United States has asked mediators to inform Iran that Washington will not remain silent in the face of threats to freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. According to the report, the United States has requested that Iran provide written and public commitments not to target commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. Al Arabiya also wrote that White House officials have warned Tehran through intermediaries that continued attacks on ships will have military consequences, and any hostile action at any point in the Strait of Hormuz will face "severe repercussions."
