New storm system intensifies in western and northern provinces; officials issue orange and red warnings

A new precipitation system that entered the country yesterday intensified today over western and northwestern provinces, the slopes of the Zagros and Alborz ranges, and the Caspian Sea coast, officials reported. Manshur cited two outlets for the following details: an orange alert was issued for most provinces in the western half of the country; red alerts were issued specifically for Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari and Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad provinces and for some areas in Khuzestan, Lorestan and Kurdistan. Authorities advised residents to avoid nonessential travel, camping and movement along riverbanks and channels, and climbing to high elevations; they also urged protection of orchards, greenhouses, livestock and poultry units, and fish farms against cold, snow and rain. Temperature drop: News outlets reported a noticeable fall in temperatures. Khabar Fouri said Shahrekord recorded a low of 5°C and a high of 9°C today, making it the coldest provincial capital in the country. IRIB reported the same temperature readings for Shahrekord.
