Gianni Infantino, FIFA president, confirmed that he received contact from Trump regarding the suspension of Folarin Balogun, a player on the United States national team, but told him that FIFA's disciplinary body is independent and the case will be reviewed at the scheduled time. Infantino said: "I regularly communicate with the President of the United States about matters related to the World Cup, and in this case I also received contact from President Donald Trump; just as I receive communications from various topics from heads of state, government officials, football stakeholders and company executives from around the world."

• The FIFA president said: "During this conversation, I explained that a legal process is underway in FIFA's independent judicial bodies and this case will be decided by the competent authorities at the appropriate time.".
