Mahmoud Khalil Files Lawsuit Against Donald Trump's Government

Mahmoud Khalil, a former Columbia University student and pro-Palestinian activist, has filed a lawsuit against the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump, invoking the Ku Klux Klan Act and accusing White House officials of conspiring against him. The complaint says the Trump administration’s actions violated his legal rights and, on that basis, seeks legal action under the Ku Klux Klan Act. The law, enacted in 1871, was designed to counter the acts and conspiracies of the Ku Klux Klan — a far-right white supremacist group — against the rights of citizens, especially Black Americans, and it is still cited in some civil rights cases in the United States. According to The Washington Post, the complaint names U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio; Stephen Miller, a senior adviser to Donald Trump; Marcovin Mulin, Secretary of Homeland Security; Todd Blanche, acting attorney general; Kristi Noem, the former Secretary of Homeland Security; and John Armstrong, an official at the U.S. State Department, as defendants.
