A Coalition of Conservative Groups

A coalition of conservative groups, foreign policy experts, and digital freedom advocates has urged the U.S. Congress to include two proposals supporting free internet access in Iran within the 2027 defense budget bill. According to The Hill, the letter's signatories believe that Iranian access to free internet and censorship-circumvention tools represents one of the most effective ways to strengthen citizen communication, document human rights violations, and increase pressure on the Islamic Republic. The letter emphasizes that internet shutdowns have become one of the government's primary tools for suppressing protests, detaining opponents, and restricting access to information.
