Russian FM Lavrov says he traveled to Tehran to meet senior Iranian officials

Lavrov traveled to Tehran to meet senior Iranian officials, the Russian foreign minister said. Manshur reports that Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs had announced last week that Lavrov would meet with Abbas Araghchi and other senior officials. Manshur also notes that the trip occurred hours after the Wall Street Journal reported that Vladimir Putin had sought a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. former President Donald Trump. Manshur adds that Russia, described as an ally of Iran, has repeatedly offered to mediate between Tehran and Washington since the start of the conflict between the U.S. and Israel and Iran.
