Mehdi Mojahed: Trump has finally admitted that his main objective is to permanently station the U.S. war fleet in the Strait of Hormuz and collect tolls from passing ships. Some, naively, were suggesting that if Iran gave up managing the Strait of Hormuz, the situation would return to what it was before the Ramadan War, and that the United States would no longer have any pretext to attack Iran and would leave the region. A U.S. presence in the Strait of Hormuz means the permanent continuation of Iran’s blockade and the militarization of economic sanctions.
