Israeli military reporter: service member accused of spying for Iran is a member of the civil defense rescue unit

An Israeli servicemember accused of spying for Iran is a member of a rescue unit attached to the Civil Defense Command, Radio Army military-security reporter Doron Kedosh reported. According to Kedosh, that unit is routinely called up during rounds of tensions with Iran to be on alert and is among the first forces sent to incident sites, rescues or areas hit by rockets. Kedosh suggested it is possible Iranian handlers did not recruit the servicemember at random; they may have thought access to the unit’s readiness information could help assess Israel’s preparedness for a possible retaliatory strike.
