Iranian electricity official announces start of scheduled power outages

A few days after reports of prolonged power outages in various parts of Iran, including Tehran, an Iranian electricity industry official announced the start of planned blackouts in the country. Abdolamir Yaghoubi, director general of the Energy Management and Customer Planning Office at Tavanir, told Iranian state television on Monday: “Information regarding possible nationwide power restriction programs is provided two days before implementation, and accordingly, information on possible outages has been finalized through Wednesday.” He cited the hot weather as the reason for the decision and said: “If temperature changes are such that they affect consumption levels, we can mitigate this phenomenon; otherwise, given that the country’s power plants and national electricity grid are currently operating at maximum capacity, there is no choice but to manage the load.”
