Reform of the pilgrimage currency supply mechanism in 2026

Reform of the pilgrimage currency supply mechanism in 2026
Story summary

Reforming the mechanism for providing pilgrimage foreign exchange; moving toward more precise resource management

The change in the method of supplying and selling pilgrimage foreign exchange in 1405 should be analyzed within the framework of managing foreign-currency expenditures, reducing reliance on public resources, and delegating demand fulfillment to the domestic capacity of the country’s official foreign-exchange network. Field checks by a Mehr reporter at bank branches, currency units, and exchange bureaus active in selling dinars show that selling rates in the supply network are not uniform and vary within different ranges depending on the method of procurement, service delivery, and sales model. Accordingly, some banks that source foreign exchange from their own resources and, at the same time, provide sales through more facilitative channels such as online platforms, access via a wide branch network, and non-in-person processes have announced rates in the range of about 125 to 127 tomans per dinar. By contrast, in some exchange bureaus and in-person sales channels, rates have been lower, and in some border cities around 117 tomans and in Tehran close to 120 tomans per dinar have been reported.
