Qatar government condemned Houthi missile attack on Saudi Arabia

Story summary

As the four teams that have reached the 2026 World Cup semifinals are now known, the national anthems of these countries have once again come into focus ahead of the matches; each with a distinct historical origin. England’s national anthem is considered the oldest in the world and was written around 280 years ago in support of the king. Argentina’s national anthem, however, was born out of the country’s War of Independence and has become one of the most important symbols of Argentine national identity. France’s national anthem was also formed during the French Revolution as a battle hymn and is still regarded as one of the most epic national anthems in the world. Spain, meanwhile, has a unique feature: unlike many countries around the world, its national anthem has no official lyrics and is performed only as music.
