Ali Al-Zaidi, new Iraqi Prime Minister, traveled to the United States

Ali al-Zaydi, Iraq’s new prime minister, traveled to the United States on Tuesday, July 23, on his first foreign trip since taking office, and is scheduled to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House. According to the Associated Press, al-Zaydi, who worked as a businessman before entering politics, was chosen as the consensus candidate for prime minister after months of political deadlock in Iraq. Trump had earlier welcomed his selection, describing it as “the beginning of a new chapter” in U.S.-Iraq relations.
