A court in Paris issued a previous conviction against Marine Le Pen
Story summary

A Paris court has upheld a previous conviction of Marine Le Pen, leader of France's far-right party, on embezzlement charges, but has opened the way for her to compete in the 2027 presidential election. Under this ruling, if the leader of the National Rally party wishes to participate in that election, she must wear an electronic monitoring bracelet. The appeals court has sentenced Le Pen to three years in prison, two of which are suspended, and one year under electronic monitoring. Ms. Le Pen had previously stated that she would not participate in the race under such conditions. According to Ms. Le Pen, this means that each time she wants to participate in an election campaign rally, she must obtain prior authorization.
