Teachers' Union Protests Imprisonment of Shakrollah Ahmadi

The Coordination Council of Teachers' Professional Organizations announced the issuance of a prison sentence against Shokrallah Ahmadi, a teachers' trade union activist and inspector of the council, by Branch 103 of Mamasani Criminal Court. The council's media channel reported on Saturday, July 11, that according to the issued ruling, Shokrallah Ahmadi has been sentenced to three years imprisonment on charges of "assembly and conspiracy to commit crimes against domestic and foreign security" and to seven months and fifteen days imprisonment on charges of "propaganda activities against the Islamic Republic system." Shokrallah Ahmadi was arrested at his home in Noor Abad, Mamasani on January 10, 2026, and was released after several days. The Coordination Council of Iranian Teachers' Professional Organizations responded to the prison sentence for this education activist by stating: "Trade union activities, defense of teachers' rights, and pursuit of educational and economic demands are not crimes and should not be answered with security charges and heavy judicial sentences." The ruling issued against Shokrallah Ahmadi is preliminary and he has been notified that he has twenty days from the date of verdict notification to appeal and request reconsideration.

• The Coordination Council is calling for the annulment of this ruling and the cessation of case-building against trade union activists and an end to security and judicial pressures on teachers.. The council emphasized that professional union activity and defense of teachers' rights should not be criminalized through security-related accusations and severe judicial penalties.
