US response to Hormuz proposal currently 'under review' by Tehran
US response to Hormuz proposal currently 'under review' by Tehran Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said a US response to a proposal put forward by Tehran is currently "under review". Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi confirmed they had received a response via intermediaries to their proposal for a seven-day plan to reopen the contested Strait of Hormuz, which they presented at UN meetings in New York. He added that "the Islamic Republic of Iran’s final response is prepared [and] the necessary steps will be taken through the appropriate channels". US President Donald Trump said in late September that he had rejected the plan, but Iran has maintained that negotiations through mediators are ongoing. Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said earlier today that the strait will remain shut until Washington meets seven conditions based on the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.
